Welcome!
My family tree has nearly 20,000 members and my research files and documents are stored
on this webpage.

John Brooks born 1837 Pennsylvania is found in the 1860 Tennessee census just prior to his marriage to Roxanna Permilia
Smith and then they are found in Texas in 1870 and 1880. Those census records indicate that his father was born in Holland and his mother in France. Roxanna's family was in Tennessee long before the Trail of Tears.

Her mother Caroline Bond was the daughter of John Baptist Bond, and Caroline might have remarried two or three times. Roxanna's son was named John and he married Annie Clark Ballard, a daughter of Dora Craig and James Ballard, and her family was another group of early settlers into Tennessee. Dora's mother was Rebecca Caroline Pennington.

Annie had only one child, named James who served in WWI and wrote letters to her from France.

James married Susie Mae Cooper and we knew her as Mamaw. Susie's parents were Levi Benjamin Cooper and Sarah Elizabeth "Sally" Carter.

Sally's parents were Mary Josephine Herreferd and Thomas Randolph Carter. Levi's parents were Sarah F. Lee and Charner P.
 Cooper of Chambers County Alabama.

Many of these are buried at Greenwood Cemetery but when Thomas died, Mary buried him beside his first wife Lacy Jane Bozeman and their children in Hope Hull's, Carter-Stokes Cemetery on the old family plantation, a beautiful setting off McLean Road. Mamaw's grandson Clarence published an article about his survey of this area in the Alabama Cemetery Preservation webpage and Clarence shared copies of the family photos that are found within this research.

Mamaw did name a son James Brooks Jr and he married Mary Thornton, a daughter of Bessie Hood and Milton Elijah Thornton. Bessie's parents were Ella Olivia Baxley and L. W. Hood while Milton's parents were Mary Angeline Partridge and George Thornton. Parents of Ella were Louisa Miranda Holt and James H. Baxley.

Lacy's grandfather Peter Bozeman is studied
on my other webpage.

With a further study and photos
on this page. And my mother's family research of the Carter - Fenn - Stone - McClain lineage as continued here.

Of course when my daughter married a Westbrook, her children will need to learn about their daddy's ancestors from Marengo County Alabama. ..
